Sydney is one of the most popular city in Australia. Sydney is the capital city of New South Wales and is located on Australia's east coast. It is the home of most iconic Australian tourism spots such as the Opera House, the Harbor Bridge, Bondi Beach and some of Australia's best universities such as University of Sydney and University of New South Wales.

With great transport systems such as trains which come every 15 minutes, metro lines, bus and ferries, Sydney is a great city to explore. Sydney is also a very multicultural city with 45.4% of the population being born outside of Australia. Due to the various cultures, Sydney offers a huge range of cuisine and entertainment.

Sydney UBF community

There are 2 UBF chapters in Sydney; Macquarie UBF and Sydney UBF. Macquarie UBF has 4 missionary families and 1 shepherd family in total and Sydney UBF has 1 missionary family.

Macquarie UBF is located in the Suburban area of Sydney which is a 40minutes train ride away from the city and right next to Macquarie University. Sydney UBF is located in Ashfield which is a 10minutes train ride from the city which is near campuses in the city such as USYD (University of Sydney), UTS (University of Technology Sydney) and UNSW (University of New South Wales).

Things you can do

  • Macquarie University activities: Sunday lunch fellowship after service, Easter camp, End of the Year/New Year's conference, sports, Joint summer conference with other chapters etc.

Important notes

  • According to USYD's estimate of living costs it will require at least $1,754 per month for accommodation, food, utilities and entertainment. The actual costs will depend on your lifestyle choices and needs.
  • In Sydney we use Opal cards for transport. It will require approximately $120 per month for transport.

Languague Programs

  • Macquarie University offers an English language course that is catered for each student and different levels. This course is appropriate for students who want to study in Australia as most universities require international students to have met the English requirements (equal to IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each band). Students applying for Foundation or Diploma programs at Macquarie University will need to meet MQ College English requirements.   • USYD Centre for English teaching. There is DEC which is a Direct Entry Course that prepares you for direct admission to Sydney University. The program is 36 weeks long. There are other programs that are catered to your level of proficiency. Check this link
